Damn, this already looks pretty solid!! I'm no good with environments, but perhaps work on refining your brush strokes. At a distance, it appears somewhat fine, but once you zoom in the edges of the objects in your scene are not clean, the brush strokes are not blended in very well either.

Also, as practice, this is good. IMO however (and again, I'm no pro when it comes to backgrounds), you should choose a focal point for your paintings, something that the eye is immediately drawn too. For me, the painting has too many things going on, but no focus on any single particular thing. This is where greater contrast would come in handy, as well as more color (your color palette is a bit bland), and a better light source. For example, what if you chose a very bright, warm light breaking through a more cloudy sky and hitting the temple? The light on the temple would draw our eyes there :) Light can also convey a certain atmosphere as well -- is it a warm scene, a cold scene, something dark and suspenseful, eerie, etc.?

And one more thing that comes to mind. Make use of the blur tool, to give a sense of depth (and it helps with focus too). For example, the branches in the very front of the foreground could be blurred out a bit, so that more focus is on the middleground. I know it sucks sometimes to blur out part of the scene you put effort into painting, but the end result is better :D

But the sense of distance in the background is good (the atmospheric perspective), the concept is neat as well, it's great overall :3 If you're just a beginner, this is incredible already and I think in a few years' time you'll be amazing! :D (I hope I didn't come across as harsh, but instead helpful ^^; ) Cheers dude! :D
